Soirée [swah-rey] –noun
an evening party or social gathering, esp. one held for a particular purpose: a musical soiree.
I knew the word. I knew that I was at one. I just couldn’t get close enough to it with my spelling such that the spell checker could take me all the way home.
I found the correct letters at that old internet standard dictionary.com. If you are not familiar with that old standard then maybe you don’t know another of my favorites – so check out IMDB.com too.
Homegrown [hohm-grohn] –adjective
1. grown or produced at home or in a particular region for local consumption: homegrown tomatoes.
2. native or indigenous to or characteristic of a region:homegrown musicians
This homegrown soirée was a blast! Music, drinks, food and over 120 business networkers in a great venue. They need to do this more often. Maybe with a little encouragement they’ll do it again. Continued…

10 Things Not To Do When Networking
It’s not just you. I’ve done these things all too frequently. Writing them out (okay typing them out) helps me be more mindful when I’m out networking. Maybe reading them will help you be more mindful too!
1. Stand in one place and talk to folks you already know.
It is okay to spend a little time reconnecting and reinforcing existing relationships – just make sure you excuse yourself and start some new ones too. Tip: Set a goal around how many new relationships you want to start.
2. Ignore the lost loners.
Remember when you ventured out to your first networking group? Perhaps you were the nervous, awkward person standing by yourself. If you’ve been there you know it is no fun. Tip: Go up and warmly greet them. Introduce them to a few people you know. You will be top in their minds for your business category! Continued…
