Question:When is a “leads” group not a leads group?

Answer:When it has evolved to become group that regularly influences the entire world in a positive way.

I joined Rotary for a simple and personal reason. It has to do with Polio.  My wife, who is from Colombia, has permanent muscle paralysis to her right leg from a Polio infection when she was a baby.  This attracted me to Rotary because Rotary’s most ambitious project ever is the eradication of Polio.  This effort is global and recently has attracted $355 million in challenge grants from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

It was Rotary’s history, that surprised me. I was going through new member orientation and learning the history of Rotary when I discovered how much the organization had evolved.  continued…

Networking Tip – Fear or Excitement?

There are two emotions that motivate us – fear and excitement.  Most people choose fear. – Brad Sugars

We have this enormous stress response system that reacts to fear.  It developed over many thousands of years – most of them when people’s lives were constantly in real danger.  Statistically, where I live, most adults get through their lives without ever having to physically defend themselves or run from a real physical threat.  We never, or rarely, have a real reason to be in “fight or flight” mode.

Fight or flight is expensive.  I’ve read that cell repair, cell division, digestion, higher order reasoning and emotion all get shut down in fight or flight.  Stress even shortens our life span. continued…
